Since her birth into the Royal House of Wenchi in Ghana, West Africa, Akosua Busia has been fulfilling a life destined for greatness. This multi-talented artist is the youngest daughter of an Ashanti Chief and former Prime Minister of Ghana, the Honorable Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, and Mrs. Naa Morkor Busia. Akosua grew up in Ghana and attended the prestigious Central School of Drama and Speech in London. She graduated early and went on to star in projects for the stage and screen throughout Europe. After being dubbed one of Europe’s “Ten Most Promising Stars,” Akosua turned her thoughts to America.
Akosua’s acting career has been based in works that portray the African-American experience in a variety of ways. From Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple to her role in John Singelton’s film Rosewood, Akosua’s characters are strongly affected by America’s racial tensions. Now she combines the different chapters of her life as a black woman in Africa, Europe and America as well as the fictional lives of her characters both on screen and in print to present a compelling program that examines racial and cultural identity in the world today.
